Key Aspects of the 9th Grade Nation:
Seamless Transition.
We are providing a smooth transition from 8th to 9th grade to help new 9th grade students become engrossed in their learning and immersed in seeing themselves as contributers.

Personalization.
We are making connections and providing relevance to students’ lives and engaging all students’ through heart, hand, and mind. Linking prior understandings, creating frameworks for factual knowledge and encouraging students to self-monitor their learning .

Strong and Respectful Relationships.
The 9th grade year serves as an introduction into a culture of high expectations with caring adults and peers.

Civic Engagement - Be the Change!
We developed Civics: Be the Change! a rigorous, project-based, activity-oriented course designed to bring civics alive and make it more relevant for students. The City of Pittsburgh is the lens through which all members of the 9th Grade Nation begin their journey of civic awareness, empowerment, and engagement.

Student Support.
We offer:
  • Student centered instruction with curriculum alignment;
  • Benchmark assessments and monitoring of behaviors for each 9th grade student who appears to be falling behind in any aspect of the school experience;
  • Appropriate supports provided early and often.

Be the change
you wish to see in the world
