School Information

Pittsburgh Weil PreK-8 is one of the District's eight Accelerated Learning Academies. It is located in Pittsburgh's Hill District community.

The Accelerated Learning Academy model includes a partnership with the America's Choice School Design, additional instructional time (extended school day and school year) and frequent monitoring of individual student progress.

Schoolwork is real work and we are helping to prepare children for the world of work. We are a standards-based model that is data-driven. Specific rituals and routines are to be followed throughout the school day.

More information about school programs, procedures and expectations is available in the School Handbook.

Quick Facts:

  • An activities calendar will be sent home monthly and will be posted in the main office.
  • Every month, students will focus on a new book that teaches a valuable lesson all can learn from and be inspired by. Children will bring home a letter introducing the new book.
  • Every child at Pittsburgh Weil PreK-8 is expected to read 25 books during the school year and keep track of the books using a log. Throughout the school year, the students will receive various rewards for keeping up with this valuable task.
  • Several academic programs are in place to identify students' needs and improve skills.

Special Education Programs:

  • Learning Support
  • Emotional Support
More information is available in the Special Education section of the District website.

Parent/Family Involvement:

Regularly scheduled Parent-Teacher conferences occur during each semester. Parent conferences are encouraged and can be arranged at any time during the school year if a parent has a special concern.

We want more parents and guardians to become involved in activities at Pittsburgh Weil. The PTO will sponsor several programs, fundraisers, events and activities to help enrich teaching and learning. Meetings will be held monthly starting in September, and parents will be notified of the dates.

Pittsburgh Weil PreK-8 is staffed with a full-time Parent Engagement Specialist.

More information is available in the School Handbook and in the Parent & Family Involvement section of the District website.
