Enrollment is open to all K-7th grade students in PPS. Applications are due by May 2nd. The enrollment status of all applicants (accepted or not accepted) will be communicated to families by mid to late May.
The 2014 program will serve roughly 2,000 campers. Every student in grades K-7 is encouraged to apply, but for K-3 and 5th -7th graders, students will be prioritized for admission in three tiers, based on a child’s PSSA or DIBELS assessment scores along with his/her free or reduced price lunch status. Detailed tier information is included on all enrollment materials.
For 4th grade students, youth who were accepted to Summer Dreamers in 2013, as 3rd graders, will be automatically admitted for 2014. This is part of the two-year, randomized control trial (RCT) performed by RAND across five District-run summer learning programs nationwide, through the Wallace Foundation’s Summer Learning Demonstration. SDA will not serve any 4th grade student who was not accepted as a 3rd grader for the 2013 program. Admission decisions will allow for sibling preference – if one child in a family is accepted to Summer Dreamers, other children in the household will also be admitted, with the exception of 4th grade students.
There’s still time to give your child the ultimate summer adventure! Families have until May 17 to submit an application to the Summer Dreamers Academy.
