Google Donates Teacher's Classroom Supplies
The speaker, Kamal Nigam, an engineer at Google, showed up at Taylor Allderdice High School with a big surprise — boxes full of graphing calculators, paired with handwritten notes from Google employees.
As part of its community outreach efforts, the tech giant, with offices in Bakery Square on Penn Avenue, granted about $65,000 worth of teacher fundraising requests from 58 schools in a seven-county area around Pittsburgh. The requests were on DonorsChoose.org, a crowd-funding site designed to help educators trying to bridge the gap between school budgets and the needs of their students.
“They have to keep up with technology to do well,” said Casciato, who was teaching advanced placement calculus when Google officials and Mayor Bill Peduto arrived.
