District Mourns Passing of Beloved Leader
(Courtesy of Sandidge Photography)
It
deeply saddens us to learn of the passing on July 16, 2015 of Dr.
Helen S. Faison. We would like to express our sincere sympathy to her
family on behalf of Pittsburgh Public Schools.
Dr. Faison played many key roles within the District including school counselor, and principal, where she was recognized as the first female high school principal as well as its first African American high school principal. In 1999, she served as Interim Superintendent- the first African American woman to hold that position.
In 2004, Dr. Faison's legacy prompted the District to name its newest and largest K-5 school in her honor. The school stands as a lifelong tribute to her six decades of service. She made a difference in the lives of many Pittsburgh Public Schools students. Her contributions to this school district will not be forgotten.
